Car shuddering as you pull away? Vibrating around 60 to 90km/h, fine when cold but worse once it warms up? That is often the torque converter, not the whole gearbox. We find out for certain, then repair it properly.

Honest torque converter repair in Singapore

0% Risk0% Guessing0% Headache

A shudder on take-off feels like the gearbox is failing, so another shop quotes for a whole box. Often it is not. The same feeling can come from the converter, the mounts, the valve body or tired fluid, and each one is a different fix. We drive the car and read the symptoms first. When the shudder shows up, at what speed, hot or cold. The pattern tells us where the fault sits, and you get the price and the plain reason before any spanner comes out.

When the gearbox is mechanically sound and the fault is in the converter, the converter is what we repair. The gearbox comes out, the lock-up clutch, bearings and worn internals are put right with quality parts, and the car is road-tested to confirm the shudder is gone. No replacing a whole gearbox you did not need.

We Read the Symptoms

Shudder and vibration leave a pattern. We test-drive the car and watch when it happens, because that points to the torque converter long before anything comes apart.

The Converter, Not the Whole Box

When the gearbox is mechanically fine and the fault is in the converter, we repair the converter. No replacing a whole gearbox you didn't need.

Diagnose First, Then Quote

We confirm where the fault actually sits before any spanner comes out. You get the price and the plain reason up front, with no work you didn't ask for.

Free Towing

A bad shudder can make a car undriveable. If it's not safe to bring in, we collect it. Free towing for gearbox repairs, anywhere in Singapore.

My Honda Vezel's gearbox has been acting up for weeks with harsh shift and weird noises on startup. Brought it to the shop on busy Friday, and they squeezed me in without fuss. The team diagnosed it quickly, replaced the faulty components with good quality parts, and had the car ready by mid-next week. Now it drives battery smooth again, just like when I first got it. Honest pricing and no upselling nonsense.

Took my Toyota Sienta to them after the gearbox started to hesitate and slip noticeably. They did a full overhaul. The transmission behaves better now with no issues during driving. Work was completed on schedule and the bill came in close to what was quoted.

Gearbox Repair and Overhaul for Every Make

Shudder on take-off? Vibration at speed?

Tell us what the car is doing and when it happens. We'll tell you whether it points to the torque converter, and what it takes to put right.

What a torque converter actually does

The torque converter sits between the engine and the gearbox. On an automatic, it does the job a clutch does on a manual, but with fluid instead of a pedal.

It passes engine power to the gearbox smoothly, lets the car sit in gear at the lights without stalling, and soaks up vibration while you cruise. A lock-up clutch inside it clamps shut at speed for efficiency.

When that lock-up clutch or the bearings inside start to go, you feel it as a shudder or a vibration. The gearbox itself can be perfectly healthy. The trouble is in the converter.

We diagnose by the symptoms, then quote

A shudder on take-off and a worn torque converter often go together. But the same feeling can come from the gearbox mounts, the valve body or tired fluid. Each one is a different fix and a different bill.

So we drive the car and read the symptoms before anything comes apart. When the shudder shows up, at what speed, hot or cold, light throttle or hard. The pattern tells us where to look.

Then we quote. You get the price and the plain reason before any spanner comes out.

How we repair a torque converter

There is a right order to this job, and we follow it every time.

  1. Test drive. We feel the fault for ourselves and note exactly when the shudder or vibration comes in.
  2. Remove the gearbox. The converter sits behind the box, so the gearbox comes out to reach it.
  3. Repair the converter. The lock-up clutch, bearings and worn internals are repaired or replaced with quality parts.
  4. Refit and road-test. Everything goes back to spec and the car is driven again to confirm the shudder is gone.

Often it's the converter, not the whole gearbox

This is the part most owners get caught on. A shudder feels like the gearbox is failing, so another shop quotes for a whole gearbox.

When the box is mechanically sound and the fault is in the converter, that is money in the wrong place. We confirm where the fault actually sits, and if the converter is the problem, the converter is what we repair.

If the diagnosis points deeper, to a worn gearbox rather than the converter, we'll tell you straight. That is a different job. Read about a gearbox overhaul.

The cars we see this on

A failing torque converter turns up across a lot of makes, and the symptoms are the giveaway.

We repair them on continental cars such as BMW and Mercedes, and on Japanese makes such as Toyota, Lexus, Mazda and Honda. It is especially common on 6-speed and 8-speed automatics with some miles on them.

If the car vibrates or shudders but throws no gearbox fault codes at all, the torque converter is worth checking first. That is often exactly where it hides.

Can't drive it in? We'll fetch it

A heavy shudder makes a car unpleasant and sometimes unsafe to drive. There is no sense risking it across town.

Torque converter repair FAQ

What is a torque converter?

It sits between the engine and the gearbox on an automatic car. It passes power smoothly, lets the car idle in gear without stalling, and absorbs vibration. A lock-up clutch inside it engages at cruising speed.

What are the signs of a failing torque converter?

A shudder as you move off, a vibration around 60 to 90km/h, a slipping-then-grabbing feeling, or symptoms that are worse once the car warms up. It often happens without any gearbox fault code.

Can a torque converter be repaired instead of replacing the gearbox?

Usually, yes. When the gearbox is mechanically sound and the fault is in the converter, we repair the converter rather than replace the whole gearbox. We confirm where the fault sits before we quote.

How much does torque converter repair cost?

It depends on the make, the gearbox and what the converter needs. We diagnose first and give you a firm quote before any work starts.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. Instalment plans are available via Atome, Grab Paylater and Shopee Paylater. Let us know when you come in and we'll sort it out.

How long does it take?

The gearbox has to come out to reach the converter, so it is not a same-visit job. We confirm a timeline once we have driven and diagnosed your car.

Why does my car shudder only when it's warm?

As fluid heats up it thins, and a worn lock-up clutch in the converter starts to slip. That is why a shudder often shows up warm and eases off when the car is cold.

Which cars do you handle?

Continental makes such as Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW and Mercedes, alongside Japanese and Korean cars. Torque converter faults are most common on 6-speed and 8-speed automatics.

My car shudders badly and I don't want to drive it. Can you collect it?

Yes. We offer free towing for gearbox repairs anywhere in Singapore. Send us your location on WhatsApp.
